Use Mindful Gray In The Kitchen
A Mindful Gray kitchen is gorgeous. Picture this, kitchen cabinets painted in SW Snowbound, Mindful on the walls, beautiful white countertops with gray marbling, and dark hardwood floors. Dream kitchen or what?
The light mid-tone gray on the walls will contrast the light, bright white cabinets as well as complementing the gray marbling in the counters and the dark hardwood floors.
Trim Color For Mindful
Mindful Gray is an amazingly awesome gray so, we want to make sure we pair it with an equally amazingly awesome trim color. The most popular color for trim and baseboards is white. But not all white paint colors are created equal.
When it comes to Mindful, my favorite white trim colors are:
- Pearly White SW
- Hamburg Gray SW
I want to note that even though I am singing high praises about this color strip, not all the colors should be used together.
Let me explain.
Repose Gray and Mindful are only a shade apart and the same as Dorian Gray. Being that the colors are so close in shades, if they are used together they will compete with one another.
Its best to go for colors at least 2 shades darker or lighter. This way the color will have enough of a contrast between them.

What Undertones Are In Repose Gray
Repose Gray has blue undertones and slight violet but they are very minimal. These cool undertones have a greater likelihood of showing up in a north facing room or hallways and other areas with not a lot of natural light.
So if your room has northern exposure, Repose Gray will lean a bit more blue with just a flash of purple/violet in the shadows. But in a south or west-facing room, it will look much lighter with no noticeable undertones at all Be sure to for more pics of her beautiful coastal home!
One of the great things about Repose Gray by Sherwin Williams is its versatility and these slight undertones play a huge part in this. Repose Gray really is the perfect paint color, which can also act as a chameleon and pick up slight hints of color from its surroundings as well.

Mindful Gray Vs Agreeable Gray
Agreeable Gray is Sherwin Williams long-standing, best selling paint color.
Like Mindful Gray, it is a greige paint color. Both have gray and beige undertones, and both also carry a subtle green undertone.
But, you will find that Mindful Gray reads slightly cooler than Agreeable Gray. This is because Mindful Gray also has a hint of blue in it. It is also because Agreeable Gray leans more beige than Mindful Gray.
Additionally, Mindful Gray is a darker paint color than Agreeable Gray. If you want a paint color that definitely looks warmer, go with Agreeable Gray.
But, if your room has a lot of warm light, as Southern facing room will, Mindful Gray might be a better shade to balance this warmth out.
Is Repose Gray A Good Exterior Color

Absolutely, Sherwin Williams Repose Gray is a great exterior paint color! I find that it looks especially gorgeous on southern style architecture and coastal beach homes.
Its important to keep in mind that paint colors will usually always appear lighter when used in exterior applications. This is due to the amount of natural light being reflected off the surface.
So since Repose Gray SW 7015 has an LRV value of 58 it will look even lighter when used outside.
But I personally love light gray paint colors used on exteriors. Whether used as house paint, painted fences, gray deck paint, they all look gorgeous to me! I also love warm gray paint colors on modern farmhouses, a coastal beach house, or even more modern or traditional homes.
If youre looking for more of a dark gray paint color for exteriors, you can try the other colors on the same paint strip such as Dovetail or Gauntlet Gray. Gray or greige paint colors are a classic choice for house exteriors and wont go out of style any time soon.
SW Repose Gray 7015 can also be used as a trim color for windows, garage doors, porches, and more.

Where To Avoid Using It
Personally, I do not love Mindful Gray in a darker spaces. If your room is east-facing, you will find that the paint color looks beautiful in morning like but a bit dark and muddy in the afternoon. Vice versa will apply in a western-exposure room, and a north facing room may feel a bit too dark throughout the day.
If your room benefits from multiple exposures, or primarily warm light, you really see how beautiful this paint color can be.
Ultimately, we repainted our East facing dining room in a much lighter color, Benjamin Moore Paper White, which has completely lightened and brightened the space, no matter what time of day it is.
Sherwin Williams Mindful Gray Color Palette
As I mentioned earlier, Mindful Gray is part of Sherwin Williams Nurturer Color Collection, which is shown in the picture above. This color palette consists of muted, earthy colors that feel warm and inviting.
This isnt the only color palette to choose from. You can create your own Mindful Gray color palette using some of the coordinating colors I mentioned before.
As we now know, this gray is pretty neutral and that makes it easy to find colors to work with it.

Comparison Between Mindful Gray And Dorian Gray
Even though these two types of gray look almost the same, in reality, theyre not. You may be able to see the apparent differences between these two colors only if you choose to paint them for your houses interior walls. This color difference is mainly due to the different Light Reflectance Values that each paint has. For example, the LRV of Mindful Gray is 48, while the LRV of Dorian Gray is only 39. The slight difference in LRV is vital in determining which paint to use for a given space with certain light intensity.
Since Sherwin Williams Mindful Gray has a higher LRV, this means that it can reflect a higher amount of light around a specific space in the house. The general atmosphere, brightness, and lightness of a particular space in the house are affected by the LRV. Hence, if you need a paint that could reflect more light around the house to increase the overall brightness of a particular space, you should pick a paint with a higher LRV, such as Mindful Gray.
On the other hand, if you prefer your paint to reflect less light around a specific space to decrease the surrounding light intensity, then you should pick the one with a lower LRV. However, please keep in mind not to use both Dorian Gray 7017 and Mindful Gray SW 7016 in the same room because their hue family and lightness are not the same.

Mindful Gray works very well for the furniture, and we suggest painting the kitchen cabinets in greige on a white background. Nevertheless, you can also go with an island painted this way and white for the rest of the cabinets. Regardless of how versatile this gray shade is, nothing will beat its integration within a Farmhouse interior. This is also true about the dining space, where Mindful Gray harmonizes with the dark wood furniture for an extra feeling of comfort. Still, you can also opt for a light wood table, upholstered chairs, an extravagant chandelier, and your dining area will acquire a contemporary look.
