Although ANP levels in pregnancy are variably reported, a meta-analysis39 showed that ANP levels were 40% higher during gestation and 150% higher during the first postpartum week.

One of the reasons for the so-called mismatch between risk and treatment is the lack of reliable markers to guide the titration of effective treatments. Persistently elevated or increasing NP levels are associated with an increased risk of hospitalization and mortality. In otherwise clinically stable patients with HF, a change in NP levels 30% between visits indicates a change greater than would be expected from daily variation10 and is likely clinically relevant and should therefore call for more intensive follow-up and/or intensified medical treatments.

Data suggest that serial monitoring of NP levels can provide powerful information about response to therapy and residual risk.11-13 Initial studies on NP-guided therapy14-16 have targeted a large reduction or a very low NP level in the intervention group and generally compared this intervention with contemporary guideline directed medical therapy . Targeting a specific reduction in NP levels has shown an improvement in clinical outcomes, although these studies were smaller and ongoing studies will provide further guidance.17,18

A B-type natriuretic peptide test is a blood test. It measures the levels of a certain type of hormone in your blood called a B-type natriuretic peptide. This test gives your healthcare provider information about your heart.

Higher-than-normal levels of BNP in your blood can be a sign that your heart isnt working as it should. It can mean that your heart isnt pumping enough blood through your body. Since BNP is cleared by your kidneys, it may also mean that your kidneys are not functioning properly.

Correlation analyses showed that NT pro-BNP levels were positively correlated with CK-MB and creatinine . Multiple linear regression analyses demonstrated that with NT-pro BNP levels as the dependent variable, NT pro-BNP levels were positively correlated with CK-MB and creatinine . The area under the ROC curve of NT pro-BNP levels and clinical diagnosis of HF was 0.582 and was not significant . However, the area under the ROC curve of NT pro-BNP levels and clinical diagnosis of impaired renal function was 0.596 and reached significant difference .
