Adult Intensive Therapy Program | The Vine Unit | Research Psychiatric Center (RPC)

One of the first things you should do if you suspect that your young adult loved one is dealing with a mental health crisis is to look for the signs of the crisis. Some signs that may indicate that a loved one is dealing with a mental health crisis can include:

  • avoidance behaviors and isolation
  • intense mood swings
  • bouts of crying brought on suddenly
  • destroying things in bouts of anger
  • threatening self-harm or harming others
  • thinking or behaving irrationally
  • routine changes with sleeping, eating, etc.

Its important to know that you should act if you believe that a young adult loved one is having a mental health crisis even if they seem to be feeling better after a period of symptoms is over or they are not in any immediate danger. Experiencing a mental health crisis is serious and requires mental health intervention and care as soon as possible.

Its important to note that recovery from an eating disorder can be a long and challenging process. It is not a choice, but a medical condition like that of diabetes and it may involve setbacks along the way. With appropriate treatment and support, it is possible to overcome an eating disorder and lead a healthy, fulfilling life.

Why We Created Newport Institute

Many recognized facilities seek to treat teens and young adults struggling with mental health disorders and substance abuse. But they only treat the symptomsnot the underlying issues. In addition, they dont have an approach that gets to these core issues. Therefore, the success rate of adolescent treatment is hindered.

Treating symptoms can sometimes lead to short-term positive outcomes. However, it does not create real, sustainable success.

We set out to build Newport Academy and then Newport Institute as comprehensive treatment alternatives to teen and young adult rehabilitation. Ultimately, we wanted an approach that addresses the why, not just the what.

Our treatment programs focus on each individuals unique DNA, history, temperament, and constitution. We offer an integrated approach that balances psychological, biological, social, educational or career-focused, and spiritual needsleading to sustainable, long-term recovery.

In 2019, depression and suicidal thoughts have doubled in young Americans according to the American Psychological Association.

Between 2008 and 2017, the number of young adults experiencing serious psychological distress increased by 71 percent.
