Inpatient care at a treatment center, hospital, or residential program
To start your search for mental health treatment, try your regular healthcare provider. They may have recommendations for psychotherapists, psychiatrists, or other mental health services in your area. There are also a number of online therapy options to fit your schedule.
Here are some other avenues to explore when youre ready to reach out for help:
Check with your insurance provider to see what services are covered under your plan and search your insurers provider directory for services that accept your insurance.
Ask friends or family for recommendations for therapists and other mental health resources that have helped them.
Use general online directories like Psychology Today or Therapy Den to search for mental health providers in your area.
Visit the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to locate providers and treatment options in your area. You can also call the SAMHSA National Helpline at 1-800-662-HELP .

Loneliness And Our Mental Health
Loneliness affects many of us at one time or another. We know that loneliness can be both the driver for and a product of poor mental health.
Our society is changing fast. The pandemic has given rise to a sense of loneliness and isolation undermining confidence in daily routines. In recent times, many of us have had far less access to loved ones. Tech is enabling healthcare professionals to see more patients without the need to travel, but on the flip side of the coin, convenience and cost efficiencies are driving more and more activities online.
Our workplaces are also changing. With many adapting to home and hybrid working, we need to embrace this change while building and maintaining meaningful connections with our colleagues.
Hylton High School Participates In Between The Bells
Mental health awareness is critical in supporting our students, families, staff, and communities. It takes a community to come together in meaningful ways to spotlight this awareness and general mental health wellness. Over the past month, PWCS highlighted Mental Health Awareness Month through a community expo, school-sponsored awareness walks, and fairs.
As this year’s Mental Health Awareness Month comes to end, PWCS is sharing an event Hylton High School organized in early May called Between the Bells, an interactive program designed by To Write Love on Her Arms , for high school students to spark authentic conversations about mental health and to remind those who are struggling that they are not alone. Through an anonymous survey, students revealed that anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts were the most common mental health concerns they are struggling with and counselors were present during lunch shifts throughout the week to provide students with valuable resources available to them in the area and nationwide.

Back To Basics For Mental Health Awareness Month
Millions of Americans struggle with their mental health or have been affected by mental illness. During May, Mental Health America is at the helm of Mental Health Awareness Month. The pandemic heightened isolation, unrest, and turmoil, so more Americans than ever experienced mental health struggles.
The 2022 theme for Mental Health Awareness Month is Back to Basics. The theme provides foundational information about mental health and mental illness treatment options when mental health is a concern.
Early Warning Signs Of Mental Illness
Each mental health condition has a unique set of symptoms. But many share similar signs, especially those that get in the way of your day-to-day life. Common early warning signs of mental illness can include:
Worrying or feeling afraid more than usual
Feeling sad, empty, or hopeless most of the time
Having trouble thinking, concentrating, or learning
Noticing big mood shifts, from lows to highs or elation
Avoiding friends, family, or social commitments
Sleeping or eating more or less than usual
Losing interest in activities you used to love
Using substances, like drugs and alcohol, more often than usual
Thinking about suicide or killing yourself
If youre worried about your child, you may want to pay attention to some less obvious signs theyre struggling with their mental health. Look for behaviors such as:
Changes in school performance
Frequent aggression or disobedience
Regular temper tantrums
Recognizing the early signs of mental illness can help you get treatment sooner. Mental illness responds well to early intervention. For example, those who start schizophrenia treatment early after symptoms appear are often better able to manage their serious mental illness long-term.

Risk Factors For Mental Health Disorders
Many factors contribute to your overall mental health. This can include genetics, your lifestyle, and environmental influences. Many stressful circumstances can increase your risk for mental health problems.

History Of Mental Health Awareness Month
Mental Health formerly known as the Association for Mental Health organized the first Mental Health Awareness Month in 1949. Interestingly, though, it is not the only society that engages in periodic outreach throughout the year. Other organizations, such as the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, also get heavily involved in annual campaigns.
Mental health issues are, unfortunately, a scourge on our society a hidden epidemic that often rumbles on in the background, hiding its scale. Mental Health Awareness Month, therefore, is an attempt to bring these issues to the fore. In the past, the purpose of the month was to raise funds for those affected by various conditions. But in recent times, organizers shifted the emphasis to the problem of stigma.
Stigma is one of the main reasons why people dont come forward for mental health treatment. Patients view their symptoms as a mark of their character instead of a problem with their biology, outside of their control. People do not see a broken leg as a sign of personal inadequacy, but they may take that view with mental health conditions.
Another purpose of the event is to highlight the fact that treatments are improving with every passing year. Talk therapies, medications, and lifestyle interventions all combine to produce radically beneficial outcomes for patients. Theres no need for people to suffer in silence. Options are available.

How To Celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month
Mental health is a significant concern in our society, but it is also something that we can each address individually. The good news is that you can get involved with the effort and lend a helping hand to those around you.
The easiest way to get involved in Mental Health Awareness Month is to download the Mental Health Month Toolkit. This resource provides you with practically everything that you need to improve your own mental health, and that of the people around you. It includes material that helps you to own your feelings, look for the positives in situations, and eliminate the toxic influences on your life. It also provides information on how to create a healthy routine, support other people in your community, and connect with those who might be isolated.
The second thing that you can do is learn more about the stigmas of mental health. As we discussed, researchers are increasingly coming to the view that mental health conditions are strictly biological processes. Individual patients do not choose their health problems. You might, therefore, want to reach out in ways that highlight this important point.
Next, you could treat yourself to a spot of pampering or a well-deserved vacation. Regular working life can be tough. But going away for a week in the sun gives you a chance to recharge your batteries and gain a new lease on life.
Finally, you can attend events and share information related to mental health with your friends and family on social media.

Take Care Of Yourself: May Is Mental Health Awareness Month
Weve all been through a lot this year. And one issue that continues to make headlines? Our mental health. Specifically, the effect of COVID-19 and all that comes with it vaccinations, quarantining, working from home, disrupted schedules, lack of social interaction, and more.
Now is a good time to pause and reflect. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, so we want to make sure we recognize a difficult truth: Nearly one in five Americans lives with a mental health condition, according to the National Institute of Mental Health.
That includes any mental, behavioral, or emotional disorder such as:
- Mood disorders, including bipolar disorder
- Personality disorders
- Eating disorders
- Substance -use disorders
A recent statement by President Joe Biden on Mental Health Awareness Month mentions isolation, sickness, grief, and job loss as contributing factors on declining mental health as well as lack of access to mental health services during difficult times.
But its important to remember that you are not alone.
In fact, that is the theme of this years awareness month from the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Experts stress that now is the time to focus on healing, reaching out, and connecting in safe ways by acknowledging that its okay to not be okay.

World Mental Health Day 2022 Make Mental Health For All A Global Priority
World Mental Health Day is marked every year on October 10 to raise awareness about mental health around the world and to mobilize efforts to support those experiencing mental health issues. Every year since 2013, the World Health Organization has organized a global campaign for World Mental Health Day. The World Federation for Mental Health announced the theme for World Mental Health Day 2022, which is Make mental health for all a global priority.
