Why Do I Keep Changing My Mind About What I Want To Do
There are many reasons why people find themselves constantly changing their minds about what career or work to pursue.
As weve seen there are many benefits to daring to change your mind.
But if you feel frustrated or lost because youre always changing your mind about what you want to do, there may be some fundamental underlying reasons worth exploring.
Some of them include:
- Being unsure of where you stand in life or not understanding yourself.
- Feeling like you havent found your purpose yet.
- Not feeling confident enough to make a decision yet.
- Having self-doubt or questioning your ability to make the right decision.
- Trying to people please and live your life to suit others rather than yourself.
- Having unrealistic expectations about work expecting too much too soon, or searching for perfection.
- Overreacting to inevitable bad days, boredom, or other negative emotions you experience occasionally.
- In extreme cases, people with BPD might find that they constantly change their mind about things.
In many cases simply getting to know yourself better can be a good solution for finally finding satisfaction in what you do.
Quite often we fear that we cant achieve our biggest goals in life and in work, and so end up settling for less. But theres still that nagging voice in the back of your head that wants more.
What does it take to build a life filled with exciting opportunities and passion-fueled adventures?
And thats what makes Life Journal so powerful.
Its Okay To Change Your Mind
I used to think its bad to change your mind. He doesnt know what he wants is what most people think when you change your mind.
But who cares!? It can actually be good for you to change your thoughts. Derek Sivers is a great example of that. If you dont know Derek, hes one of my favorite modern-day thinkers. In 1997, he founded a company called CD Baby. That company still exists today.
But Derek sold it in 2008 and eventually became a respected author, blogger, and speaker. In our conversation on my podcast, Derek told me he always changes his mind:
I love it when I think the opposite today of what I thought when I woke up this morning. To me, theres no feeling better than that when I actually changed my mind or have my mind changed on a subject. That is amazing. Thats my favorite thing in life.
After he sold his company, he had enough money to retire. He thought about changing his name and living an anonymous life. But instead of changing his name, he changed his mind. He did the exact opposite of what he initially thought. But theres one important thing to realize.
When Youve Outgrown A Belief Or Idea
I expect that you had strong beliefs as a teen or student which you dont necessarily hold now. Perhaps you supported an extreme political party, had very firm religious views, or had a fixed idea on how the world should work.
Most of us are able to outgrow our rather juvenile beliefs but we sometimes struggle to change our minds about things which weve subscribed to in adulthood. The truth is that we all continue to grow, change and learn throughout our lives. Just because you were certain about something ten years ago doesnt mean you need to believe it forever.

Its Okay To Change Your Mind About What You Want
Yesterday, I wrote the last part of Jacks birth story . I spent the day remembering a thousand tiny details about his first few days. How he smiled in his sleep while they were rolling me to our room. How we had to go to Publix after being released to pick up my prescription and I just kept looking at him, thinking, We keep him? This tiny little thing? And being a mix a pure happiness at getting to keep his perfection and pure terror at the responsibility of keeping him alive. How I woke up disoriented from the first nap I took on our first day home, asking Chris if the nurse had come back by, and he said You dont know what youre talking about. Come look at your baby.
I didnt want a baby. My life feels perfect now. know Its okay. Its okay. Its okay. Its okay.

I Was Afraid That Living A More Settled Down Lifestyle Meant That My Life Would No Longer Be Exciting
After leaving my small hometown and never returning, living in New York felt like the height of proving to myself that I was living the exciting life Id been chasing. As if our years in far-away California werent exciting enough, I was sure that living in another place that some people only dream of visiting meant that I had the world at my fingertips. Deep down I feared that a life anywhere less exciting would absolutely be the end of fun and adventure in my life.
Slowly, I began to realize that the only thing that could dictate that for me would be myselfif I believed a life in Richmond would be boring, it probably would be. I decided that it was up to me to create an exciting life for myself, and to decide for myself what constituted an exciting life. This proactive attitude mattered far more than where my life took place.
The Path Can Change With Us
We think that once we have picked a path, we must walk it. What if that wasnt true? What if you could do something else that felt more meaningful to you today? What if you could reinvent yourself tomorrow? What if you could quit a career that no longer fulfils you? What if you could choose another path to explore?

Why The Fear Zone Is So Scary And Uncomfortable
If stepping out of your Comfort Zone was that easy, we’d all be doing it all the time. Common theory says that to get to the Growth and Learning Zones we have to go through the Fear Zone first. What happens in the Fear Zone though that defeats us time and time again?
- We worry about what others will think of us, we may experience shame and fear
- We become risk averse
- We display low self-confidence, low self-worth and negative self talk
- We make excuses for not doing things
In the Fear Zone, the negative self talk can be overwhelming. The worry about what others will think of us can stop us before we even start. Fear of failure, fear of loss, fear of looking silly. The Inner Critic is taking centre stage in the Fear Zone, and often times Imposter Syndrome makes a cameo appearance too. “Who do you think you are to do that? What makes you think you’ll be good at it? What makes you think people want to listen to you? ” Often times we seek advice or support from others, only to have them talk us out of it and raise more fears – this is a reflection of their own insecurities and Comfort Zone boundaries.
As I started to coach people to step out of their Comfort Zone and saw them getting stuck, I began to wonder…. “What if instead of going through the Fear Zone, what if we stretched our Comfort Zone to be bigger instead? What if eventually the Comfort Zone overtook the Fear Zone and we got to Growth and Learning without needing to be afraid or uncomfortable?”
Our Thinking Changes As We Change
Rethinking our identities can be hugely challenging. We get attached to the idea of being someone who is this or does that. We form identities and think we cant change them as we grow.
Deciding you want to be or do something else because it usually means you will lose something you once were or had. But you will likely gain a whole lot more, its just hard to see it like driving in fog.

I Know This To Be True:
Our bodies are magical compasses that are constantly giving us information about the direction we are moving in. Our symptoms when acknowledged and realized for what they are help us course correct.
Even if it has been 20 years, its okay to change your mind. After this conversation this woman told the band director that she wouldnt be back in the new year. Shes been sleeping like a baby ever since.
Youre Not Wasting Your Time
Time is our most precious resource in life, and we dont want to waste it.
Stubbornly sticking at something that isnt right for you, rather than correct course now, can prove to be a waste of your precious time.
There are many reasons why you may want to change what you do. When were feeling dissatisfied about anything in our lives, taking no action at all is often the worst move we make.
Of course, its sensible not to rush foolishly into certain decisions, especially when your livelihood is concerned. But once you already know that you want to change your mind about what you do, delaying the decision any longer is only eating away at more time and stopping you from making a start on something else.

It Shows You Are Flexible
Heres the honest truth
Whether we like it or not, change is coming our way in life. We cannot avoid it and often it is thrust upon us.
If you can roll with it rather than try to dodge it, youre going to be well prepared and more resilient than those who resist it.
The ability to adapt to change is essential if you want to succeed at anything. This includes being able to switch jobs, take a new course, or try something different.
Recruiters these days are actively looking for employees who can display adaptability and flexibility in their way of thinking and doing things.
Youre more likely to bounce back from setbacks with a flexible outlook.
Receptiveness to change means that you are more willing to seek new ways of doing things and have the confidence to experiment, and modify your behavior based on what you find.

How Often Do Tires Need To Be Rotated
Most carmakers recommend tire rotation every 5,000 to 7,500 miles, although some specify shorter intervals for certain models. Many service stations and tire dealers will do it free of charge as part of a regular maintenance visit. You can usually tell when your tires need to be rotated because theyll start to show uneven wear. The outer or inner edges of the tread may start to look bald while the center still has some life left in it.If you dont rotate your tires, theyll wear out prematurely especially if you frequently drive on rough roads or make a lot of sharp turns. Thats because the weight of the car isnt evenly distributed across all four tires when youre driving, and certain areas end up bearing more of the load than others. Over time, this leads to uneven tread wear and makes your tires less effective at gripping the road .So how do you rotate your tires? Its actually pretty simple: just move them from one position to another. For example, if your car has front-wheel drive, the front tires will bear more of the weight than the rear ones so when you rotate them, you would move the front tires to the back . There are different patterns for different kinds of vehicles , so its important to consult your owners manual or ask a professional before doing it yourself. In short: yes, rotating your tires is definitely worth it and it doesnt take long or cost much money to do!
How Often To Switch Tires
It is typically recommended to switch tires every six months. This ensures that your tires will have optimal traction and grip, which is necessary for safe driving conditions. There are a few things to keep in mind when deciding how often to switch your tires. First, consider the type of vehicle you drive. If you have a heavy-duty truck or SUV, you may need to switch your tires more frequently than if you drive a smaller car. Second, think about the types of roads you typically drive on. If you live in an area with lots of potholes or icy conditions, its important to make sure your tires are in good condition so you can avoid accidents. Finally, consider your budget. Tires can be expensive, so if youre on a tight budget, you may need to switch them less frequently. Ultimately, the best way to determine how often to switch your tires is to consult with your mechanic or dealership.

Its Okay To Change Your Mind Change Constantly
When’s the last time someone said that to you? Personally, this was a new concept to me a few years ago. I always thought I wasn’t being dependable or that I was going back on my word if I changed my mind. What I realize now is that changing your mind is actually allowing yourself to grow and evolve…which doesn’t always suit everyone around you.In this episode I talk about how I’ve been growing and evolving to show up even when I don’t feel qualified or ready to. How I’m allowing myself to question the information I’m given and decide whether that feels right and how you too can do this to bring more love into your life.
How Long To Change Tires
When it comes to changing your tires, there is no one-size-fits-all answer. The frequency with which you need to change them depends on a number of factors, including the type of vehicle you drive, how often you drive, and the conditions in which you typically drive. With that said, here are some general guidelines to help you determine how often to change your tires. If you drive a passenger car or light truck: All-season tires: every 25,000 miles or 2-3 years Summer tires: every 10,000 miles or 1 year Winter tires: every 5,000 miles or 6 months If you drive a heavy duty truck: All-season tires: every 35,000 miles or 3 years Heavy duty trucks carry greater loads than passenger cars and light trucks, so their all-season tires need to be changed more frequently. This also applies to vehicles that are used for off-road driving or hauling trailers.

Youre Less Likely To Live With Regrets
You know what they say, you only regret the things you didnt do. And research seems to back this up.
Studies have found that its regrets about inactions that haunt us far more and for a longer period of time.
Plenty of people have regrets, and the most common when youre lying on your deathbed is: I wish Id had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
As explained in Business Insider, theres a very good reason why the regret of not following your dreams becomes the most haunting:
When people realise that their life is almost over and look back clearly on it, it is easy to see how many dreams have gone unfulfilled. Most people had not honoured even a half of their dreams and had to die knowing that it was due to choices they had made, or not made. Health brings a freedom very few realise, until they no longer have it.
You only live once and life is too short for what ifs.
So if you want to change your mind its far better to change it 1000 times over than live with the regret of not doing so later on.
You Have The Right To Change Your Mind
While changing your mind can make you feel uncomfortable with a decision that goes against your original worldview, doing so can also come with a feeling of making an evolved and informed decision, says Deborah Serani, PsyD, psychologist and professor at Adelphi University in Garden City, New York.
This is how Amy Koenig, 42, in Illinois feels about her change of mind.
As a person who prides herself on being fit, eating healthily, and turning to natural remedies for minor illnesses, aches and pains, she didnt believe her or her family was at risk of severe illness from COVID-19.
As teachers, administrators, and nurses headed back to school, there was a lot of information coming my way from friends and family, Koenig told Healthline. A woman my age who I would consider very fit with no known medical conditions was hospitalized for a few days and was given oxygen.
Although the woman recovered, Koenigs confidence about staying safe from the virus, especially the Delta variant, waned.
I had childhood asthma, and while I dont suffer from it now, my lungs will always have this memory, Im told. So if I do get sick, and it does go to my lungs, I could struggle more than someone without this lung memory, she said. the Delta variant was so much more contagious and more likely to affect my kids, could I be in a situation where I was not able to properly take care of them?
Koenig got vaccinated in August 2021.
