But a key piece of the facility’s creation is still missing: a 20-bed in-patient mental health unit promised in May after the unit’s elimination two years before.

Dr. Michael Doyle, executive director and chief medical officer for HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley, said Wednesday that a date for the actual opening of the unit is not firmly set yet.

“We’ll bring inpatient psychiatry back to Ulster County to the Mary’s Ave campus later this year,” Doyle said in response to a question posed at the monthly breakfast meeting of the Ulster Regional Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday morning. “I don’t have a date, OK, later this year, probably third or fourth quarter, so that’s when that will happen.”

HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley is the operator of HealthAlliance Hospital. Westchester Medical Center Health Network is the parent company.

Doyle said that the outpatient chemical dependency program will be part of a planned health village at the former Kingston Hospital on Broadway, which closed in December.

In May 2022, officials announced that after a two-year fight over the elimination of mental health beds in Ulster County WMCHealth had agreed to return 20 inpatient beds to its HealthAlliance Mary’s Avenue campus at the beginning of this year.

Chris Singleton, a Westchester Medical Center Health Network spokesman, said on Wednesday that there is no delay and that the return of mental health beds is on schedule.
