Colorado’s behavioral health system is in the process of transformation. The Behavioral Health Administration is a new cabinet-level agency, housed within the Department of Human Services, designed to be the single entity responsible for driving coordination and collaboration across state agencies to address behavioral health needs. Many behavioral health programs such as crisis services, substance use treatment, and care coordination are now administered by the BHA.

Colorado’s two Mental Health Hospitals and the Forensic Services division will remain within the Office of Civil and Forensic Mental Health.

About the Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Fort Logan

The Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Fort Logan is one of two state psychiatric hospitals serving Colorado residents with acute mental illnesses and/or court-ordered inpatient restoration treatment. Our vision is to provide exemplary inpatient psychiatric care to residents in Colorado with acute, serious and persistent mental health needs. CMHHIFL supports hope, health and recovery through innovative, evidence-based and individualized patient care.

Residential Vs Outpatient Treatment

Colorado’s treatment centers provide individuals with complex psychiatric problems with effective and integrated treatment called residential or inpatient treatment programs.

In Colorado, residential inpatient treatment entails 24-hour care in a live-in facility. Full treatment services, including medical and behavioral therapy, are usually available for patients staying in such facilities.

Outpatient treatment programs in Colorado give those who cannot take time away from their regular lives, work, or school, more flexibility. The outpatient programs typically meet for a few hours weekly at the treatment centers.

What Treatment Therapies Are Offered At Colorado Mental Health Facilities

A wide range of therapeutic offerings can be found at mental health facilities in Colorado, with some offering just those treatment therapies that can best benefit the patients that they focus on. As an example, mental health treatment centers that provide a focus on eating disorders may offer therapeutic solutions that will best benefit the patient struggling to regain control over an eating disorder.

Some of the offered therapies may include the following.

  • Individual and family counseling sessions
  • Group counseling sessions
  • Medication therapy

As the needs of patients can vary so greatly, mental health treatment centers often fine-tune their offered therapies to meet the very specific needs of each of their patients.

What Levels Of Care Are Available For Mental Health Treatment In Colorado

Levels of care can vary greatly between mental health treatment centers, with some preferring to refer patients out to other facilities for the care that they need.

Some of the levels of care may include the following.

  • Self-help. This type of care is the least intense, and is not always the recommended course of treatment.
  • Psychotherapy. Help from a mental health professional can be incredibly beneficial.
  • Outpatient treatment from a psychiatrist.
  • Day programs or partial hospitalizations.
  • Inpatient or residential treatment programs.

Knowing which level of care is right for you can prove to be difficult to determine without intervention from mental healthcare professionals. While outpatient treatment is incredibly beneficial for the majority of patients that have mental illness treatment needs, there are just patients that are better suited to seeking inpatient or residential treatment solutions.

Thereâs no wrong time to seek out mental health care facilities in Colorado.
